Derek's program includes works by Dutch composers Louis Andriessen and Jacob Ter Veldhuis, Italian composer Fausto Romitelli, and American composers Elliott Carter, Michael Fiday, and Scott Johnson.
BASILICA's full ensemble of musicians will be giving performances at 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00 P.M. The program for each of these performances will include Joe Molinaro's "Grind Piece" and Charlie Olvera's "Modifiers No. 1," both compositions which were written exclusively for BASILICA. The program will conclude with Louis Andriessen's "Workers Union."
All of the evening's performances will be given in conjunction with video art by IUPUI music and arts technology faculty member Jordan Munson. Jordan will present new interactive video projection that transforms the music and other sounds of the performance environment directly into a real-time video representation of the sounds.
BASILICA will be serving baked goods and coffee throughout the event. The premiere of Brooke Merry's official GLACIER cupcake will be featured.
Admission to this event is free. Donations at the door will be encouraged and appreciated.
GLACIER LAYER II will be held in Studio 204 B at the Murphy Arts Center, which is located at 1043 Virginia Avenue in Indianapolis, Indiana. PAST PERFORMANCES:
Friday, December 3, 2010
On Friday, December 3, 2010, the music and multi-media performing arts organization BASILICA will present "THUNDER PERFECT MIND II: Reverberations and Realizations," a music and multi-media performance-installation at the Murphy Arts Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Doors will open at 6:00 P.M., and three renditions of the evening's performance program will be given at 8:00, 9:00, and 10:00 P.M.
This event celebrates the one-year anniversary of BASILICA's first music and multi-media production at the Murphy Arts Center, which was entitled "THUNDER PERFECT MIND: An Exploration of Light, Sound, and Consciousness." The sequel that will be presented on this December 3 draws and expands upon the themes and content of last year's event.
THUNDER PERFECT MIND II will further explore the written and spoken word in a new audio-video presentation of the ancient epic poem "Thunder Perfect Mind." BASILICA director Ben S. Jacob has prepared this new interpretation of the text, which will be realized at this event by a spoken recitation as well as video animation of the text by New York City-based BASILICA video artist Rob Dietz.
This event will also feature further celebration of the written and spoken word through the world premiere of a composition by Joe Molinaro entitled "Breakdowns of the Bicameral Mind," a work that draws inspiration from the controversial work of historical psychology "The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind" by Julian Jaynes. This new arrangement will feature a vocal performance by the composer himself in a style of extreme vocalization reminiscent of the musical traditions that have been an influence on BASILICA's instrumental music hitherto.
BASILICA will complete the evening's performance program with the thunderous reverberations of Workers Union, an epic 20-minute work by Dutch composer Louis Andriessen.
THUNDER PERFECT MIND II will also feature the world premiere of the new work of neo-abstract expressionist painting by BASILICA artist Christian Fillippo entitled "The Falling Forest of Iron and Dreams." Other works by Christian Fillippo will be on display as well.
Finally, BASILICA will be presenting another array of vegan and non-vegan baked delights by Brooke Merry as well as coffee to keep you going through all of the First Friday events. Brooke's menu this month will feature the premiere of her vegan tiramisu cupcakes as well as seasonal baked goods.
THUNDER PERFECT MIND II will be held in Studio 204 B at the Murphy Arts Center, which is located at 1043 Virginia Avenue in Indianapolis, Indiana. This event will coincide with the IDADA's monthly First Friday Art Tour, so be sure to come and check out all of the other art and performance events that will be going on here in the Fountain Square area and all across Indianapolis that night.
